Three tours in Avensan

Your vineyard tour in the Médoc

In Avensan, we welcome you by reservation to our Cru Bourgeois Supérieur estate (since 2020), between the vines, the vat room and the tasting.

The essentials

A vineyard tour links the plots, the vat room, the stages of winemaking and the tasting. At Château Meyre, three tours last from one to two hours, depending on how much room you want for discovery, gourmet food or cycling. Each format is booked before you come to Avensan.

One estate, two appellations

What will you discover on a vineyard tour in the Médoc?

The tour takes place at Château Meyre, in Avensan. Our vineyard covers 12 hectares split between Haut-Médoc and Margaux. The plots rest on Quaternary gravel, sand, silt and veins of clay. These landmarks give real substance to the landscape you see before entering the vat room.

A château visit with tasting then lets you link these soils to the two red wines of the estate. Château Meyre is an AOC Haut-Médoc, classified Cru Bourgeois Supérieur since 2020. Gallen de Château Meyre is an AOC Margaux. The Meyre sauvignon blanc completes the tasting announced for the Discovery Tour.

If you are wondering which vineyard to visit in the Médoc, the choice is not only about the setting. Here, the plots, the appellations and the stages of winemaking come together on a single tour, with a welcome at one precise address in the Médoc.

Choose by pace

How long does a vineyard tour last?

Three lengths correspond to three ways of experiencing the estate. The shortest tour sets the landmarks. The second extends the tasting with something gourmet. The third leaves part of the discovery to your own pace.

1h

Discovery Tour

A personalised tour goes from the vines to the vat room, puts the stages of winemaking back in order and ends with a tasting of the three wines presented by the estate.

The vines and the cellars come before a tasting of three wines, served with a platter of charcuterie and cheeses and a confit made from the estate's grapes.

Gourmet Tour

2h

Vineyard by Bike

You ride independently and in privacy through the vineyard. A guided tasting awaits visitors on their return. The estate holds the Accueil Vélo label.

From vat room to glass

The tasting after your walk in the vines

In the vat room, maceration, fermentation, pressing, fining and temperature control let you follow the transformation of the grape. The choice of barrels carries the story on to ageing. The tasting comes after these explanations, so that each wine can be placed in its appellation and its winemaking process.

The bottle of Château Meyre 2018 photographed in the rows shows one of the wines you meet during the tour. Its blend is mainly Merlot, completed by Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The tour thus gives you precise things to look for and to find again when the wine is presented.

Coming to the estate

Book a vineyard tour in Avensan

Tours begin at 16 Route de Castelnau, 33480 Avensan, in Gironde. Avensan is the documented meeting point for this experience in the Médoc. The estate's plots are split between Haut-Médoc and Margaux, but the tour is not presented as a circuit from village to village.

Do you need to book a vineyard tour before coming? Yes, the request must be made in advance. No price is displayed for the three formats. If your question is how much a vineyard tour costs, tell us the tour you have chosen and the date you have in mind so that we can give you the corresponding rate.

Château Meyre brings the vineyard and a four-star hotel of nine rooms together at the same address. You can therefore arrange a visit of the estate and stay overnight on site, with your accommodation part of the vineyard rather than a stop outside it.

Questions about vineyard tours in the Médoc

To find out how long a vineyard tour lasts, what it includes or what it costs, these answers cover only the formats published by the estate.

Which Médoc vineyard should I visit for a first introduction?

The Discovery Tour at Château Meyre lasts one hour. It follows a clear thread, from the vines to the vat room, then presents the stages of winemaking before a tasting of three wines from the estate. It suits a first visit if you want to understand the link between the plots, the work in the cellar and what ends up in the glass.

How much does a vineyard tour at Château Meyre cost?

No price is published for the three formats. Ask for the price of the Discovery Tour, the Gourmet Tour or the Vineyard by Bike when you get in touch. Our reception team will then give you the amount for the tour you have chosen and check its availability on your date.

Is there a château visit with tasting that lasts one hour?

Yes. The Discovery Tour lasts one hour and goes from the vineyard to the vat room before the tasting. It presents Château Meyre AOC Haut-Médoc, Gallen de Château Meyre AOC Margaux and the Meyre sauvignon blanc. Booking in advance is still required, even for this shortest format.
