Chateau
Meyre has vines growing on its property for more than three centuries.
First purchased on January 17th, 1652, by Mr Philoton, the general
controller of the house of Queen Marguerite de Navarre, and then by Mr
Derville in 1706, an artillery controller. In 1748 to 1793 Chateau Meyre
belonged to Mr Pierre Cajus, prosecutor for the Parliament of the King,
then to Mr Marteau, a Navy Captain.
In 1825, the domain was bought by the Rabot family. The vineyard covered
20 hectares
and the production reached 50 barrels.
In
1876, Chateau Meyre was classified as one of the very first growths of
Avensan and Mr. Rabot won, the Silver Medal in the
Bordeaux
wine exposition in 1895.
In April 1956, part of the domain sustained frost damage. A
quick recovery was made a few years later, thanks to the expertise of Mr
Prudhomme. The wines of Château Meyre retained their ripe body and their
fragrance due to the quality of the vines and to the marble, calcareous
and gravely soil.
Chateau Meyre was bought in 1984 by Mr and Mrs Thiéblot, and then was
sold to Mr Bengt Agren who began to renovate the cellars.
Property of Colette Lenôtre until 1998, Château Meyre now belongs to
Corinne Bonne
and covers more than
17 hectares
.
In
2007 construction of new cellars commenced and the 2007 harvest, was the first harvest to benefit from the new technological advances that will
continue to ameliorate the quality of the wine of Chateau Meyre.
